Appeal for Elderly and Infirm Jesuits
To our Friends:
Caring for our elderly and infirm Jesuits is the Philippines is a happy
burden. It is happy because the duty celebrates almost a lifetime of work
and dedication in the Jesuit apostolates in the Philippines. It is a
burden because the costs of medical care and appropriate caregiving for
these brothers are very high.
In the past year alone, the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus
spent thirteen million pesos on the care of elderly and infirm Jesuits.
Because the increasing number of aging Jesuits, the standing fund for this
purpose – the arca praevisionis – is quickly depleting.
Some of the sick and elderly today include Fr. John Krebs (69 yrs old),
Fr. Adrien Mestdag (77 yrs old), Fr. Eugene Moran (76 yrs old), and Fr.
Johnny Ledesma (98 yrs old).
In gratitude for the service to the Church in the Philippines of all
elderly and infirm Jesuits, you may wish to share our joyful burden. These
brethren have been generous in their past service. Your gift may symbolize
God’s generosity with them as they prepare for their final reward. In this
spirit you may wish to consider one or more of the following options:
-
A regular contribution of eighty-five
dollars a month for the ordinary care of an elderly or infirm Jesuit in
the Philippines for as long as necessary. Your support may or may not be
disclosed to him, as you wish.
-
A one thousand dollars or more for the
extraordinary care of elderly or infirm Jesuits.
-
A contribution of any amount for the care
of aged and infirm Jesuits.
Should you be willing to help us carry our happy burden, kindly fill out
the enclosed form [or for cyber-letters: kindly click on [[Commitment]]
and fill out the form].
Issue your check for the appropriate amount to Philippine Jesuit
Foundation and earmark it “Aged and Infirm Jesuits”. PJF, a tax-exempt
organization, will issue you an official receipt and make sure that the
AdNU gets your contribution in full.
Should you have any questions or alternative suggestions for support,
please do not hesitate to write or call me.
Sincerely.
